Ensign Pre-empted For Most of the Day
- Sunday
June 27, 1999
Though Ensign has been unavailable before due to server problems we have changed
servers and continue to be rock solid. However, we are in the midst of one of the
most important events in the history of the Interent. In order to carry out a project
today the links and stories on this page and the whole of Ensign will be offline
from 0800 until 1800 hours today.
Here is what our server is up to.
http://dbdrag.advance.mb.ca/Live_show_frame.html
Live over the Internet broadcast of video and audio is now in our hands. This
is a breakthrough in what might be called "backyard broadcasting" following
the experiments that took place throughout last evening and concluded around 1:00AM
we were able to send a signal from a remote location to the server and out to viewers
on the internet with exceptional sound quality and acceptable video quality even
at 28.8 speed modems. This means that with in a week we can actually produce live
broadcasts from anywhere with a telephone connection to the Internet.
There are some limitations such as only forty viewers being able to participate at
a time but the concept and capability are as of today, a reality. We will keep you
posted on this exciting development as Ensign might even have a video segiment for
a few minutes each day.
