Outcry
over English lessons The BBC carried this story this past weekend about a report on the French education system recommending the compulsory teaching of English to all students. This story has prompted examination in England and around the world about the status of teaching languages in schools and of course here in Canada it is a touchy issue as our schools have de-emphasised language instruction even though we know the huge academic value and cultural importance of learning more than one language. |

Screen Burn, Dumb Show The Guardian by Charlie Brooker has caused quite a stir. While US leaders and pundits alike routinely call for the assassination of world leaders and often attempt to carry out their remarks (successfully in Chile and unsuccessfully in Cuba) they are really uptight over the humourous remarks Sunday by Guardian entertainment critic Charlie Brooker. The Guardian's editors had second thoughts pulled the article and printed an apology. Meanwhile the US Secret Service is investigating Charlie. |

EB Campbell dam is no longer structurally sound. It is severely compromised with two significant cracks along the steel I beams in the spillway. Cumberland House is not under an evacuation order, they'd never make the bridge. They have been told if the phone rings drop your gear and get inland *now*. Weyerhauser was not even permitted to drive empty log trucks over the dam. They had to build a steel platform over the structure to remove their wood stock last winter. Rumor is they'll nearly drain the lake this fall, build a dam in front of the dam, reroute the river around it and rebuild the spillway.
