MINISTRY & PERSONNEL COMMITTEE ANNUAL REPORT

The members of the M&P committee are Peggy Scutchings [Chair], Donna Dobson [Secretary], and Morley Mehler. We would like to play tribute to Nora Teale who was a member of our committee until her passing in November. Nora attended meetings as her health permitted and we all appreciated her contributions to our work.

The committee formally met 4 times during 2015, but often met informally as issues arose. We have truly been blessed with the staff that we have. We will all be sad to see our Interim Minister, Sharon Ferguson-Hood complete her time with us at the end of June. We wish her all the best in her retirement. Our Office Administrator, May Bilash, goes above and beyond to carry out many little extra duties that may not be included in her job description. Our janitor, Terry Bilash has been very instrumental in keeping our church clean and in assisting the Property Committee to keep our church in good repair.

We hired Cheyanna Kidd to do some of the office work during the summer months so that May and Terry could take some well deserved time off. We also relied on some volunteers from the congregation to keep the church operating. Many thanks to those members who stepped up to the plate when some of our staff was away.

The committee reminds the congregation that they are available to receive and follow up on any complaints or concerns. Concerns are to be in writing to aid in investigation and resolution.

UCW ANNUAL REPORT

Here it is 2016 – This year we celebrate UCW’s 54 Anniversary. Where have all the years gone? Here are some of our highlights from St. Paul’s UCW.

  • We started the year out with a membership of 23 ladies but on July 1/15 we lost one of our Charter & Life Members, Lorna Rathgeber from Afternoon Unit #9. Then on Nov. 24/15 we lost Nora Teale, a Life Member from Evening Unit #7, leaving us 21 members. Our sympathy goes out to the families. We also lost a valued volunteer, Evelyn Smith, who was a gem who worked hard at rummage sale.

  • We’ve had quite a few funeral lunches – 12 for 2015. Served last Birthday Tea at Sasko Park Lodge Jan. 21/15 and Newmarket Place on Nov. 18/15. Sasko Park Lodge closed Mar. 17/15 and so by year's end the site was demolished and cleaned up.

  • March 6/15 – United Church Ladies presented World Day of Prayer services to residents of Sasko Park Lodge and Newmarket Place, Claudia Mehler played piano and the Community Choir sang. The Women from the Bahamas wrote the service,"Jesus said to them - Do You Know What I Have Done To You?” as he washed their feet. The evening service was held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.
