The elevator office was once THE coffee row in Success.

"D" Day

Success - Thursday, June 7, 2001 - By: Edwin Wallace
(These pictures and story
were written as it happened on Wednesday, June 6, 2001)

We mark that day and celebrate this the 50th Anniversary.

"In the Canadian calendar, this sixth of June, so full of consequences for the cause of freedom, deserves to be 'marked ever more in white." C.P. Stacey, author of the official history of the Canadian army in the Second World War.

Amen!

This is where the local Wheat Pool Committee learned that the SWP would no longer be a Co-op.

This is also where all members of the Wheat Pool Committee resigned when it was learned member's shares would be traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

However, locally, today there were no heroes; no great causes, only stupid wanton destruction. Our D-Day today was DESTRUCTION DAY!

The Saskatchewan Wheat Corporation's rampage finally reached Success, Saskatchewan, where our elevators fell to clawing obliteration by two enormous track hoes.

We thought our "Thumbs down on the Saskatchewan Wheat Corporation" protest sign should be on hand for the dastardly deed.

These pictures capture the end of life as it had long been lived in rural Saskatchewan.

This mess will be cleaned up by the contractor - the mess made by the President, CEO and Board of Directors will remain as an ugly stain on the face of Saskatchewan.
