Above left is a view of the tractor's massive flywheel, because of the perspective
in the picture it looks much smaller then it really is but compare it proportionally
to the drive wheel in the picture below and you see the size of it. I would assume
that this flywheel would have been used to start the machine. Above is the view
of the heads with massive tappets to actuate the valves. The two large pipes running
to the front are exhaust pipes. One can't help think about the dangers involved
in operating such a machine with so many of the moving parts exposed. On the right is a closer view of a mechanism that is beyond me and my knowledge. Perhaps related to the starting process. I took this picture peering through the spooks of the fly wheel which would be whirling around with the machine running. That handle would have to be reached from the driver's area by reaching past the hot exhaust pipe on the right side. You can see that it was once broken and has been welded back together so there was a need to apply considerable force. |
