Riverside

FTLComm - Tisdale - Friday, September 12, 2003

Though I began golfing regularly in 1958 it is a sport that I left behind when we moved to the Yukon in the 1980s. It looks like I am making a mistake by not getting back into the sport. On Sunday afternoon I dropped into the Riverside course to get some images for the town web site as I am making some QuickTime Virtual Reality images of various places around the community.

I have to tell you I was surprised at the remarkable beauty of this golf course. This is late in the season and it has been a very dry August yet the course is in the outstanding condition. The grass is great on the fairways

and on the greens and though the trees in town have been stressed by the drought the mini forest on the golf course is really looking good. No doubt this has something to do with being in such close proximity to the Doghide which winds its way along the West side of the course.

This is a QuickTime VR panorama taken Sunday afternoon and gives you a full 360º view of one small part of the course. If you do not see the scene
download QuickTime, it is easy to install and is free.

For an afternoon with lots of activities including the stock car races over at the speed way and the Terry Fox Run, there were still a lot of people working their way around the holes.

It is hard to image not having fun in such a sumptuous environment. Completely free of bug, sheltered from the breeze and a glorious sun lighting up every scene around.

The Riverside club house was open with food and coffee on hand as people waiting to tee off enjoyed the pleasant surroundings before their round.
