- Winnipeg- July 2, 1998 Pictures by Andrew Shire The CFL's first game of the 1998 season got under way on Canada Day under a cloudless hot day and in the stands it was broiling temperature. 21,000 fans were on hand to see the Blue Bombers lose to the Montreal Alouettes. Below you can see the toasting fans on the left and on the right cheering the first Bomber touchdown. Our photographer attributed the lose to the attractive but poorly coordinated cheerleaders. As Rider fans we are used to the great dancing we see in Taylor Field but the lack of Bomber offense made the sidelines more interesting. |

Above right is the Bomber that celebrates each touchdown and it did not have enough missions to even warm up its engine. The scene below is a large panorama looking west across the stadium. One surprising aspects of this season opener was the open sale of not only beer but also of hard liquor as vendors made their way through the crowd dispensing beverages. | |
