A Place For A Meeting |
FTLComm - Tisdale - Thursday, November 8, 2001 |
The development
of Tisdale's Senior Citizens Golden Age Centre has been remarkable to observe as
we have seen it come from clearing the sod from the site to the complete building
with heat and lights. The hard working and dedicated volunteers who have seen this project through continue to be on hand each and every day. About eleven folks are at work early every morning and end their day around |
five. Their efforts now are less spectacular as the fine work of finishing the project is far less noticeable but just as difficult to accomplish as raising a wall or fitting a rafter into place. Last Wednesday afternoon the hardwood floor was nearing its installation and the hard surfaced floor had just been installed. Since then the ceiling tiles have gone in, the lights installed, baseboards in half the building and on Wednesday of this week the detailed woodwork on the stage is the order of the day. Using left over hardwood |
they have crafted the doors for the front of the stage and are carefully fitting the edge boards and stairways into place. The chair carts have their wheels and are sitting in their spaces awaiting the new doors to be hung on their hinges. But without a doubt it is the atmosphere that has changed the most. Wednesday afternoon a committee held a meeting (at top of page) in the almost complete games room. Talk now is of janitorial strategies, meeting space rent, comparing quotations from suppliers for fridges, stoves, kitchen cupboards, plates and saucers. The Golden Age Centre is nearing completion but in reality its life is only about to begin. The hard work of those who raised the money, and continue to do so, the dogged efforts of the workers, the skill of the tradesmen and the positive attitude of the community toward this boot strap project is a credit to Tisdale and those who now make it their home. |
