FTLComm - Red Earth - September 24, 1999 |
With a brisk wind snapping the flags in front of John William Head Memorial Education Centre at Red Earth Dan McCrea and his crew had lunch. McCrea Electric of Zenon Park installed Ethernet net works in both the high school and elementary schools Thursday which is one of the finishing touches on the huge remodelling and rebuilding project for Red Earth Education Authority. The High School was completely rebuilt and the elementary school was given a major face lift. School enrollment continues to rise in this community and with the installation of computer networks in both schools full Internet access is being achieved. The schools are using a satellite system to provide them with Internet access and work will be completed on this project within the next two weeks. The high school computer lab and office were wired linking nineteen Windows based computers and ten Macintoshes while the elementary system consists of ten new iMac computers an Apple Macintosh G3 server and two windows based machines. Networks are important tools in modern educational systems and Red Earth has always kept up with the times their first computer network was installed when the Macintosh Classic was available in 1992 and served them well being updated and replaced with more modern equipment but the original Apple Talk network has now been replaced with a fast and efficient Ethernet system. |
