It has
been a long time since we have had a full day of rain and this one is welcomed.
Though the crops have begun their lives the fields have been very dry with blowing
dust and unpleasant worries. It began at supper time last night and continues still.
This has been a gentle soaker not delivering huge amounts of moisture but doing
so in a gradual and continuous manner. The picture on the right was taken at 9:30
this morning and shows the fog that accompanies this precipitation but the warm temperatures
and abundance of water will turn fields like this one into a lush carpet of green. After such a long time without a general rain I was |
expecting
some one to knock on our door this morning claiming he had been sent by his father to collect animals in twos and could we help because he had only thirty-nine days left. Our little garden was planted a week ago today and the chilly weather has left most of the seeds still shivering unchanged in the ground. The new raspberry canes appear to have taken hold and are leafing out nicely and the transplanted rhubarb is looking very healthy. But is is good to have this rain, not only will it clean up the streets and sidewalks but it will give us all a fresh look at things. The little puddle between our yard and the neighbours indicates that though gentle the water table is building up from the general contribution. |
