We Are All Thankful

FTLComm - Raymore - Tuesday, June 18, 2002

Even Saskatoon got a shower yesterday afternoon and most would agree that growing conditions have improved substantially. For the farms around the Eston Elrose area there is little hope for this year but for the rest of the province some hope is sustained. The pastures especially are going to revive and they were all but exhausted.

The top of the page picture was taken about fifteen minutes North of Regina and the second picture just South of IPSCO.

The showers delivered needed rain to this part of Saskatchewan where growth seems almost a month late. Germination has been fairly poor and weed development has been slow so that only now are we seeing sprayers out in the fields.

Between Watson and Naicam the dry belt that extends to the West is apparent although

poorer than Melfort-Tisdale condtions are dramatically better than South of Saskatoon.

Naicam area fields are showing excellent promise as the most improved conditions are on the pastures but even the hay fields looked like there should be an acceptable harvest.

Showers like those wandering around Monday are not general

and will hit and miss some areas. From Regina to Tisdale we saw no evidence of hail which was being reported between Regina and Saskatoon.

Our rain gauge in Tisdale showed a quarter inch but it is notorious for reading light and I suspect that more rain was received simply because of the amount of water in puddles. But look at the green, makes one feel good and Monday night drew to a close with a very glamourous conclusion.
