Ultra violet photography |

Regina - Saturday, December 18, 2004 images by: Ken Jones Ultra violet light is often called "black light" as it, like the opposite end of the spectrum "infa red" is not visible to the eye. However, ultra violet light is responsible for the tan you might get in the bright sunlight or like many of us the burn we get from exposure to the sun. The interesting thing is that ultra violet light will reveal the presence of some elements and so is often used by scientists as we see in CSI often using it with special glasses that will let them see the reflected light and by geologists. Ken Jones set out some ordinary rocks on a book shelf and the ultra violet light source can be seen on the right of this first image. He got some Kodak film sensative to this light spectrum and below is one of the pictures he exposed. |
