Recycle and Refurbish

The largest industry in Tisdale is Northern Steel Industries and we usually think of this company as a manufacturer of storage tanks and liquid storage systems. However, a major part of the company's work is "Re-manufacturing." Storage tanks have very long lives and the metal in them remains sound for decades especially with the kind of preparation that goes into the tank when it is originally constructed. Northern Steel offers its customers a huge cost saving by returning tanks that are out of service or their location has closed or changed and rather then

move old tanks, it is less expensive to install new ones. The old tanks are brought back to the Tisdale factory site and either rebuilt, as is happening to these, or in some cases they are cut up into scrap and shipped off to IPSCO to be melted down. Either way, the metal and environment is shepherd just a bit more by this responsible operation. When the recycled and refurbished inventory gets up in numbers, Northern Steel brings in a contractor to sand blast the tanks, readying them for new paint and fittings. These rebuilt tanks are then sold as refurbished tanks, or in some cases returned to the owner for use in a new or different site. The refurbished tanks are certified and carefully gone over for safety and secure conditions, going back to work with warranties and full confidence by the owne,r that they will stand up to many more years of service.
