Tisdale Alfalfa Dehydration plant announces closure |
||||||
FTLComm - Tisdale - Friday, October 14 2005 | ||||||
This story will not be a surprise to most people who have been paying attention to the agricultural martket conditions in the past few years. Parkland Alfalfa shut down three years ago when its owner realised that the market in Asia was drying up and the margin was shrinking making the whole alfalfa dehydration business unprofittable. The owners of Tisdale Alfalfa Dehy Ltd. were just as aware of the situation and began working out a means to terminate their operation. For the past two years they have been working on some alternative options but the poor market and growing conditions these last two years have made a bad situation even worse. The final blow was the remarkable increase in the price of natural gas which plainly makes the whole alfalfa dehydration process impossible. The company issued a news release on Monday that said that they were shutting down until market conditions improved and they would shut the plant down beginning January 2. For Tisdale this is a very tough situation with eighteen full time employees and fourty-two seasonal workers the shut down will definitely leave a big hole in this marketplace. |
