Mind's Eye Productions have begun work on a film about former Saskatchewan Premier and national hero Tommy Douglas. Tommy campaigned hard in the 1930s and came to power in the midst of World War II. The movie is set in the early days of his political carrier when he worked hard to spread the news of an alternative to the politics of the day. |

Gravelbourg has retained much of the look of communities from that era and so was selected as a setting for the motion picture. Buildings along the main street are being dressed up to depict the era and wood sidewalks are being installed. Most of the towns people are involved in one way or another in the production as extras or support for the production. Minnie's store has been transformed into a clapboard fronted baker and the theatre (above right) has been given a new coat of paint. This work is modest by comparison to what was done to Arcole many years ago when it was transformed into Crocus for the shooting of "Who has seen the wind". In that project they actually covered the main street with gravel. We will keep you posted on this project and hope to have some more pictures of the work in progress. |
