It seems like a modest endeavour to add a pair of fog lamps to a vehicle but it is no small task.

To create the quiet safe and attractive interior that we want in a vehicle the instrument panel is a complex thing and is not something you want to go digging around in unless you know what you are doing. That means hands off for me because all it would result is would be broken parts. Art (below) explained that it is not all that hard but you really have to be careful not to damage the plastic clips.

I will not bore you with the details of this project other than to tell you about the road blocks encountered. In order to avoid the dashboard disassembly process undertaken above I wanted to fog lamps to come on automatically with the high beams.

Seems like a good idea but Ford made this a complex problem. The day time running lights on Ford products are achieved by blinking the high beam lights eighty times a second thus reducing their output. But tie a set of lights into that circuit and the fog lights and their relay get the same treatment.

So while the project is underway let's look around the shop. The QuickTime VR was produced in Randall's Automotive today and gives you a complete 360º view of the shop area. You will need the most recent version of QuickTime to see this image (download by clicking here if the image does not appear)
