Highway 6 sky

FTLComm - From Regina to Dafoe - June 16, 2005

This pictorial begins with a chilly June morning, Wednesday, June 15th, as the first picture in the sequence shows the morning sky around 10:00 with whispy cirrus and alto stratus clouds indicating some stong winds aloft. Strong winds are almost always the result of what weather men like to refer to as a "high gradient." On their weather maps, if a very strong low pressure area and a strong high pressure area are up against one another there will be some conflict where they encounter one another, but this is magnified significantly when a high pressure ridge butts up against a low pressure trough in between the two weather masses will be strong winds and if the low carries with it lots of moisture, there will develop a frontal system which in the summer, will take the form of a line of thunder showers.

By later afternoon Regina and most of the southern portion of the province was feeling the affects of a frontal system and there were showers throughout the region.

The rainbow images were taken from the Golden Mile Mall in South Regina while the fifth picture was taken on Albert Street looking west past Taylor Field.

The sixth picture is at the Northgate Mall and from there on the images are along the highway between the edge of Regina and Dafoe, where darkness came.

These pictures were taken by Judy Shire and me using three different cameras, an HP 315, a Canaon Optura 20 and a Canon A95.
