A new street in laRonge |
||||||
FTLComm - laRonge - Monday, October 27, 2003 | ||||||
LaRonge is one of Saskatchewan's frontier towns. More than half of Saskatchewan is forest, lakes and wilderness and LaRonge is well into the borial forest and continues to experience development and growth. While Southern communities suffer from depopulation LaRonge, LaLoche and the other communities of Saskatchewan's new frontier continue to grow. Each year the population in LaRonge's two elementary and high school continue to expand just as the school system of the LaRonge band can barely keep ahead of its population growth. This is a new street being developed to take traffic from the highway into the hospital and hockey arena. Though the LaRonge Ice Wolves are the most Northern junior hockey team in Saskatchewan the most Northern junior teams in Canada are in North Eastern British Columbia and Northwestern Alberta. As Canada continues to become increasingly an urban country huddled along the border with the United States the development of Canada's North remains a challenge and an opportunity that if capitalised upon would see this country develop in its own unique way and experience prosperity that we can only now image. |
