In Whom Should We Trust

worthy

Trust. There are so many who promise they are worthy of it, so many who give it blindly, and too few who do the homework to ensure that their trust is not misplaced.

ethically

For a political or social leader, trust is a most prized consideration to receive from those they serve. We trust that promises will be kept, business conducted proficiently and ethically, with financial estimates at least in the ball park.

obedience

There are those in positions of authority who expect and receive unquestioning obedience from their supporters. So many times such followers, submitting to a cause without benefit of any real review or personal understanding, discover too late the consequences of what they once advocated.

earned

Then, there are those who base their trust on the character and competence of those who ask for our consideration. I have come to discover that trust is not something to be given without at least some modicum of reflection. Trust is something to be earned.

reflection

To that end, it is incumbent upon each of us to at least take enough interest to confirm that those we empower are deserving. It is either that or risk banging our heads against the wall in a couple of years wondering what went wrong. With a new Ontario premier and a new leader of the Canadian Alliance about to be selected, maybe now is the time for some serious thought about in whom we should trust.
