Grassroots mowed down

	Former Premier Grant Devine's application to place his names in nomination as a candidate for the new Conservative Party was refused, not by the those elected by the "grassroots" but by an appointed Interim Committee.
	Most party members and most Canadians agree with the Souris-Moose Mountain Riding president words ,
	"Basically, I believe in the power of the ballot, not the power of a faceless bureaucrat."
	The Interim Committee Chair's response when asked for the reasons why showed where decision making power rests.
	"We certainly want our party to be pure," . "As to the specifics of why we did not approve his candidacy, that will remain an internal party matter."
	What "we" want for "our" party will prevail, and no reasons need be given, to the media or party members.
