Stephen Harper in his acceptance speech on election night spoke of working cooperatively with the opposition on behalf of all Canadians for the benefit of Canada. How does his statement that the choice is Reform the Senate or be prepared for him stacking it fit into his newly proclaimed "Come let us reason and work together" approach? "Not at all" is the short answer. The longer answer is that he has served notice that whether or not "Stephen Harper?s plan for Canadians" was a matter of public discussion during the election he considers he has received an electoral mandate for its implementation. His intention, divisive or not, is to proceed to do so. |

Which pattern will be followed: the soft woolly election night speech or the previous confrontational pattern of baring teeth and threatening an election should Parliament reject or even try to amend proposed legislation? Time alone will tell. |
