I found it amusing to read about the defection of seven unknown Tory Youth members to Stockwell Day's campaign team.Their statements were a classic case of double standards.

Jim Pankiw
They held forth with righteous indignation about no longer being able to work with the Tories because Jim Pankiw, a Saskatchewan MP known for his outspoken opposition to official bilingualism, is a member of the Democratic Representative Caucus, which is currently co-operating with the Progressive Conservatives in Parliament, thus making the PC Party unmarketable in Quebec.

Scott Reid
Their outrage must have blinded them to the point that they forgot that a certain Ontario member of the Canadian Alliance caucus, Scott Reid (Lanark Carleton), fought vigorously against the new city of Ottawa having bilingual status.

wave
It seems to me that these individuals are opportunistically trying to ride the crest of a wave like the one that appeared to be building in the summer of 2000, when some heavy hitters in the Tory party defected to the Alliance.

wake
The problem for them is that the momentum has swung back to the PC Party, and the wave they are attempting to ride is now nothing more than the wake of a jet ski that has run out of gas.
