Why the sudden change? |

No one should be suckered by Paul Martin's attempt to make Canadians believe that he is genuinely interested in parliamentary reform. What a miraculous conversion considering that Martin was part of the Liberal cabinet and still is a member of a party that has only paid lip service to the idea of making Parliament more effective.

Does he really believe in parliamentary reform? Not a chance, because becoming leader of the Grits and the power that it wields is the only thing that matters to him. Making Parliament work more effectively is secondary.
The one party, however, that is openly committed to positive changes for Parliament is the Tories. The document that was discussed and voted on at their August meeting certainly makes sense and Canadians need to read it.
