A Lake Once More

For the three levels of government involved the completion of the excavation portion of the dramatic reconfiguration of Regna's Wascana Lake, Sunday was time to mark the occassion. Bags of dirt from the lake bottom we handed out, speeches made and the public shared with the politicians the pleasure of seeing a government projected completed on time and on budget.

That ceremony took place about two hours after these pictures were taken on Sunday morning. The large black piles of material sitting in the midst of the area just east of the Albert Street bridge are actually dirt covered snow piles which will soon vanish in the spring sunlight.

These pictures also show a boat working its way along as its crew are taking soundings.

Much remains to be done to finish up the project including the wall and walkways, a fountain and a host of other people things that will make this lake and the park that surround it a place of practical beauty.

We as a family have enjoyed Wascana park with its picnic tables and barbaque pits for decades and with the lake improved, I look forward to our next visit to the city when we can once more sit under a great tree and enjoy an afternoon and each other, around a humble picnic lunch.
