Water line leak |

Some estimates of water use in Canadian towns and cities puts the greatest loss of water, not to over consumption, but to holes in the water lines. This morning the town crew set to work fixing a  leak at the corner of St. Matthew's Anglican church. The
line here is one of the many lines in town that are cast iron and these lines develop
holes caused by the electromagnet process between the soil and the current that develops
in the water line. Each year the town replaces a few blocks of these lines, but
the vast majority of the lines in town are cast iron and slowly but surely destroying
themselves.Like most such leaks, they eventually come to notice as the street gets wet from the water entering it below, only occassionally is there a spectacular hole develop like the one near the paddling pool during the summer. A company works for the town each summer installing anodes to reduce this damage but most of Tisdale's water lines are to deep for this process to be effective. However, in about forty-six years the town will have replaced all of its cast iron lines at the present rate. |
