With nearly fifty dwellings on the market it seemed like a good idea to get some grasp of what sort of houses are for sale and just what part of the town are they located. The most important social problem is of course, why are so many houses for sale and to that question we don't have a definative answer. Usually houses come up for sale in the spring but this year the spring glut did not go away as more and more houses came onto the market depressing the values. Despite the volume of home for sale there were still eleven houses put into construction and of those four are on unsold. Without solid evidence there is some merit in speculation and that seems to be part of what is going on. Many homes have either been built or their owners have move up or on to high valued housing. A few houses traded came onto the market because of transfers and lay-offs in the grain industry which of course is not experiencing the best of times. Many houses are older and smaller and very low in value. Some of these houses are traded as affordable rental housing and with a downturn in the economy it may be that people who were renting these kinds of homes are withdrawing from the market to put their investments elsewhere. What ever the reasons forty-nine houses are on the market including at least one condominium in the Madisson and the new unfinished duplex sits empty.
