FTLComm - Tisdale - Thursday, May 22, 2003 |
The original Volkswagon Beetle was a remarkable design, air cooled engine with its
transmission directly attached and mounted over the drive wheels. The car's body
was actual sitting on a water tight pan and lots of people sliced out eighteen inches
and turned them into dune buggies with roll bars and some with fibre glass bodies. Since the engine
was actually derrived from a aircraft engine there are lots of plans for home builders
to use the Volkswagon engine in light single seat aircraft. I have a friend who
was able to make two take offs with his Volkswagon powered aircraft that he actual
build aboard a Canadian destroyer, unfortunately that aircraft only accomplished
one landing. But that's another story.
Yesterday I got a call from a sharp eyed reader of this site who spotted this vehicle
in downtown Tisdale.
The owner who lives just South of Greenwater park has fashioned a |

tricycle out of the Volkswagon and the front of a motorcycle.
Simple and definitely "cool" the vehicle is now registered as a motorcycle
rather than a car and hence, no seat belts.
In its original configuration the Volkswagon bug had but 45hp so this will be no
speed demon but it is also extremely light and that is lots of power and economy
to enjoy fun travelling. |
