Purple Finch

Crooked River - Thursday, May 6, 2004 by: Helen Carson

They arrived at the beginning of April. Though they are called "Purple", they look like sparrows dipped in raspberry juice. The female of course is just brown striped.

I caught a male at the feeder with his cap ruffed up. They seem to do that when agitated by other birds.

Our maple trees are full of them in the mornings especially. So I was able to get this shot of two pairs among the buds.
