Sunset September 19, 1999

FTLComm - Tisdale - September 20, 1999
Sunday was a rather dull and depressing day and as I drove into Prince Albert in the late afternoon it seemed evening yet it was only around 5:00 the sky had that dark tinge of autumn with a threat of snow. But at seven as I had begun my way home the sun made its appearance for the day and it was spectacular as though it had waited all day to show itself and kept all of its energy for that one moment when it would peak across the horizon. The thin band of clear air between the cloud layer and the surface was open to the West and through that opening the glow of a whole day's sunshine streamed across the wooded landscape of Prince Albert and Birch Hills. This image captures that brief moment.

Not realising how low the light level was I attempted to snap the thin band of light that illuminated the trees to the East and alas all I achieved was the blur above.

However, this unusual image was captured by the digital camera. The shutter is set to register enough light to make an image and then it closes so with low light if you move the camera it captures that motion until it has received enough light. In the left hand side of the image you can see the yellow trees as the camera saw them and the interior of the van. The windshield post and the ethereal transparent steering wheel. I thought this unusual image had some rather unworldly properties to it and thought you might like to see this oddity.
